Publication & Beyond is designed for authors who want their scholarly journey to continue after an accepted article is published. Peer-reviewed publication establishes the scholarly record. What the complete pathway includes
- Peer-Reviewed Publication The manuscript undergoes editorial assessment and independent peer review. Revision may be requested before an editorial decision is reached.
- Final Publication Accepted scholarly work proceeds through final production and online open-access publication.

Valuable scholarly work can remain relevant long after its publication date. This pathway is designed to give eligible published work additional opportunities for discovery through structured promotion and academic outreach.
What promotion and outreach includes
- Review of the Published Work The article and its subject are considered before outreach materials and activities are prepared.
- Communication Preparation The work is prepared for concise scholarly communication while retaining the publication as the foundation.
- Initial Outreach Cycle A structured first outreach cycle is undertaken around the selected scholarly work.
- Post-Publication Promotion The published work is given additional opportunities to be encountered beyond its original publication event.
- Academic Outreach Relevant outreach activity is used to support scholarly discovery and engagement.
- Periodic Re-Outreach Outreach is repeated periodically rather than ending after the first cycle.
- Up to One Year Periodic outreach can continue for up to one year under this service pathway.
Peer-Reviewed Publication Only
This pathway is for authors who currently want peer-reviewed publication without selecting the complete post-publication pathway. The manuscript follows the journal's editorial and peer-review process, and accepted work proceeds to final online publication.
What publication includes
- Editorial Assessment Initial consideration of scope, presentation and suitability for further evaluation.
- Independent Peer Review Appropriate independent reviewers evaluate the scholarly work.
- Revision Where Required Authors may be asked to address reviewer or editorial comments before a final decision.
- Editorial Decision Acceptance remains based on the journal's editorial and peer-review process.
- Final Production Accepted work proceeds through final preparation for publication.
- Open-Access Publication The accepted article is published online as part of the scholarly record.
- Option to Continue Later The author may subsequently consider podcasting, a dedicated author Spotlight webpage, promotion or academic outreach.
Waivers & Reduced Fees
The Gazette of Medical Sciences recognizes that authors may have different levels of access to institutional, research or personal funding. Authors facing genuine financial limitations may request consideration for a partial waiver of the applicable costs.
A waiver is not automatic or guaranteed. The level of financial consideration, where approved, is determined on a case-by-case basis after reviewing the circumstances described by the author.
- Who May Request a Waiver? Authors who have genuine difficulty meeting the applicable processing cost and have limited or unavailable institutional, research or other publication funding may request consideration.
- When Should the Request Be Made? Authors are encouraged to request financial consideration at the time of manuscript submission or as early as possible during the editorial process.
- How Is a Request Made? Send a brief request to The GMS explaining the circumstances and the level of financial consideration being requested.
- Who Should Make the Request? For a multi-author manuscript, the corresponding author should normally submit the waiver request on behalf of the author group.
- Partial Waiver Depending on individual circumstances, The GMS may consider a partial waiver of the applicable processing costs.
- Decision on the Request Each request is reviewed individually. Approval and the extent of any reduction depend on the circumstances of the request and are not guaranteed.
A request for a waiver or reduced costs does not influence peer review or editorial decision-making. Manuscripts are evaluated on their scholarly merit and suitability for publication, independently of the author's ability to pay.
